Most women worry about facial hair and will do many things to eliminate it, but can make mistakes and convert the whole exercise into a more serious problem.
Having facial hair is normal and all skin is covered with hair as it serves as protection. Facial hair tends to be thin and clear (vellus), and in such cases is counterproductive to try to remove it because you could get the appearance of that seems thicker and darker.
It's different when the hairs are abundantly present in areas like the upper lip, chin or cheeks as it becomes necessary to use methods to remove hair.
Solutions for Facial Hair Elimination
- Bleaching: Hide the hair by camouflaging it. Mix the hair with bleaching powder and add few drops of hydrogen peroxide at 20 volumes or oxidant, to form a creamy dressing.
Note: Bleach as such is highly irritant, so perhaps your best bet is to buy a ready made mix. Apply on the hair before leaving for work for a few minutes until it is discoloration, then rinse with cool water.
Skin may appear flushed for several minutes but gradually returns to normal, but it is desirable to have a discoloration of the hair if you plan to leave immediately. Doing it in the evening is simpler and you have more time so there is no need to rush. Repetition will weaken the hair, which is a good point.
- Depilatory creams (gels or lotions). These come in two forms, one for facial hair and the other for body hair but never use the body one on the face as the skin sensitivity is different (face being more sensitive) and that can cause burns or irritation. Always try out a small sample.
Depilatories act fast and painlessly, and work in about 10 minutes removing any unwanted hair leaving skin smooth and soft. Flush with water to remove any remaining product.
The disadvantage of depilatory creams is that the hair will reappear in two or three days.
- Wax is the best home hair removal method as regrowth takes several days to reappear. With frequent use of wax the hairs are weakened and regrowth will be affected.
Warm wax is used to prevent burns - the disadvantage is that it can cause reddening of the skin that can last minutes to a couple of hours, according to the sensitivity of the skin.
- Laser facial hair removal is a permanent hair reduction process.
It may take about 3 sessions and does not always guarantee successful results, for example in cases of excessive facial hair caused by hormonal problems it is possible that the hair grows back.
- Do not shave facial hair as it can leave a permanent dark shadow on the shaved areas. Just don't.
- Tweezing is the perfect way to remove or sculpture the eyebrows as well as for individual hairs.
When hair appears thick, dark or very abundant in the face talk with your gynecologist or endocrinologist and it may be due to hormonal imbalances and treatment is required.
